Come with us to London — a city as old as the Romans, and as new as the twenty-first century. There are places to go — from Oxford Street to Westminster Abbey, from Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre to Wimbledon Tennis Club. And things to do — ride on the London Eye, visit the markets, go to the theatre, run in the London Marathon. Big, beautiful, noisy, exciting — that’s London.
Modern, original fiction for learners of English. Joe lives in Canada, in a beautiful, quiet place. His peace is interrupted one day by the noise of bulldozers excavating near his house. He is told that it’s a diamond mine. Joe is a journalist for a local newspaper and his neighbours soon come to ask him to write about the awful noise and destruction. Joe becomes suspicious when his boss won’t let him write about it. He starts to investigate the mine, but gets himself in harm’s way.

History’s greatest love story, Catherine the Great and Potemkin is a sweeping epic of sex, love, power, conquest and extravagance on a magnificent Russian scale. Not only was only was their romance wildly passionate but they were also probably the most successful political partnership of all, outstripping Antony and Cleopatra or Napoleon and Josephine. Their secret letters, which discuss other lovers, sex, wars, politics, arts and health, are surely the most intimate and extraordinary ever written by an empress or politician.

It is 1547 in London, and Tom is a pauper. His father sends him onto the streets of London to beg for money every day, and hits him when he brings nothing back. But Edward is a prince, the son of King Henry VIII, and he has everything. There is something very unusual about these boys: they are from different worlds, but they look the same. When they meet one day, a mistake puts each boy into the wrong life. So what happens when a prince lives as a pauper, and a pauper lives as a king?

Hugo the hippo has his routine. He always goes skating with Bella the bird. In fact he always does everything with Bella. So when Bella makes a new friend and announces she’s going to the playground with Cressida (a crocodile) instead, Hugo feels a bit miffed. Once at the playground, everything seems to be made for two — the swings, the see-saw, even playing leapfrog. And whichever way the friends pair up, there’s always someone who feels left out. But there is something that they can all enjoy together and, when they discover it, it proves that three really is better than two! With wonderfully quirky illustrations from new talent Simon Rickerty and a great read-aloud text, this is a made-for-sharing picture book.
